Frequently Asked Questions
What is lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled placeholder text derived from a 1st-century BC Latin text by Cicero ("De finibus bonorum et malorum"). It has been the printing and design industry's standard dummy text since the 1500s.
Why do designers use placeholder text?
Placeholder text lets designers and developers focus on layout, typography, and visual hierarchy without being distracted by readable content. It gives a realistic sense of how a page will look once real copy is added.
Can I generate a specific number of words?
Yes. Select "Words" from the Generate dropdown and enter any number from 1 to 100. You can also generate an exact number of sentences or paragraphs the same way.
Is lorem ipsum free for commercial use?
Yes. Lorem ipsum is meaningless placeholder text with no copyright restrictions — you can use it freely in commercial mockups, websites, and print designs.
