Frequently Asked Questions
What is a QBO file?
A QBO file is a QuickBooks Web Connect file — the OFX-based format banks offer as "download for QuickBooks." QuickBooks reads it natively, so transactions flow straight into your bank register with dates, amounts and payees already in place.
Will QuickBooks accept this file?
Yes. QuickBooks Online imports .qbo via Banking → Bank transactions → Upload from file (choose "Web Connect"), and QuickBooks Desktop via File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files. Dates are normalized to YYYYMMDD and amounts to two decimals, exactly as QuickBooks expects.
Why convert CSV to QBO instead of importing CSV directly?
QuickBooks' CSV import forces you to map columns by hand every single time, and it chokes on non-US date formats. A QBO file imports in one click with dates and amounts pre-normalized — and every transaction carries a FITID, so QuickBooks automatically skips duplicates if you re-import the same file.
How are dates and amounts handled?
Dates are converted to YYYYMMDD and amounts to two decimals with a dot separator. The tool auto-detects MM/DD/YYYY vs DD/MM/YYYY vs YYYY-MM-DD — override it with the date-format dropdown if your bank is unusual. European decimals (1.234,56) are supported via the decimal-separator option, and (25.00) parentheses count as negative.
My debits and credits are reversed — what do I do?
Common with credit-card exports, where charges appear as positive numbers. Tick "Reverse amount signs" and everything flips. Alternatively, switch to "Separate debit / credit columns" mode and map each column explicitly.
Will re-importing create duplicates?
No. Each transaction gets a stable FITID (a hash of its date, amount, description and position). QuickBooks uses the FITID to recognize transactions it has already imported, so importing the same file twice won't create duplicates.
Is my financial data private?
Completely. Your CSV is parsed and converted 100% in your browser with JavaScript — it is never uploaded to any server, and we never see or store your data. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
Is it really free?
Yes — free, unlimited, no signup, no watermark. A Pro version with batch conversion and saved bank templates is planned; join the email waitlist above if you want it.
